New Scholars Award
International Competition

Illinois Child Welfare announces an international competition for new scholars in applied research in child welfare. The winning manuscript will be published in the 2007 issue of Illinois Child Welfare.

Manuscripts will be judged by a panel of three reviewers with multidisciplinary expertise using the following criteria:

  • Originality,
  • Depth of conceptual and theoretical background,
  • Coherence of research design and thoroughness of data analysis,
  • Recognition of biases and limitations,
  • Applicability of findings and conclusions for improving child welfare practice.

Requirements for entry:

1. Authors must be students from any country and academic program who:

  • Are just beginning the academic research and publication process (e.g., not more than 2 prior publications) and
  • Are conducting applied research in a field contributing to child welfare practice (e.g., medicine, law, education, nursing, psychology, criminal justice, social work, etc.).

2. Submit a paper that summarizes research and findings:

  • By July 1, 2007 and
  • Following guidelines for authors of articles submitted to Illinois Child Welfare.

For authors for whom English is not a native language, reviewers will take this into consideration in evaluating manuscripts, and assistance will be provided by the editorial staff when your manuscript is prepared for publication.
